(Dublin, OH) Dublin City Council Member John Reiner was appointed president of the Ohio Landscape Architects Board. Reiner serves as Ward 3 Representative on the Dublin City Council.
The Ohio Landscape Architects Board was created in 1965 to protect the citizens of Ohio through the licensing of landscape architects. The Board ensures that each landscape architect meets competency standards of education, examination and experience, thereby ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of Ohio’s natural and built environment. The Board consists of three landscape architects, one allied professional member and one public member, all appointed by the Governor’s office.
Reiner is the president and owner of Oakland Nurseries Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in government and international affairs from The Ohio State University and is a registered landscape architect and urban planner. Reiner is also a distinguished military graduate and veteran of the U.S. Army.
Reiner was chairman of the Forestry Commission from 1980 to 1984 and wrote the first comprehensive beautification laws in the state of Ohio, which later were adopted by many communities across the country, including Hawaii. He has received numerous national and international design awards, including the American Society of Landscape Architecture Honor Award for writing progressive legislation to advance American civilization and culture.
Among his many civic duties, he has served the Franklin Park Conservatory, Color Columbus, The Topiary Board, The Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association Highway Beautification Board and The Japanese/American Arts Board. In 2016, Ohio Governor John R. Kasich appointed Reiner to a five-year term on the State Board of Landscape Architect Examiners.
